Senior Scientist, Livestock Performance Research Group
The Livestock Performance group within Global Therapeutics Research at Zoetis has the mission and responsibility for identifying, validating, and testing novel approaches for improving livestock growth and reproductive performance. We are seeking a talented and experienced animal scientist to join our efforts and contribute at all phases (team leadership, conceptualization, study design, execution and reporting) of the discovery process for swine and/or cattle and/or poultry performance. The successful candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant research experience in at least one of these livestock species, with emphasis on scholarship, study design and the establishment of new animal models/surrogate endpoints. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.
POSITION
Responsibilities:
Serve as biology lead and in-life phase clinical monitor for livestock and laboratory species
Develop new animal models/surrogate endpoints
Prepare Animal Use Protocols
Collaborate across multiple scientific disciplines
Source, place and execute studies internally and externally with contract research organizations
Initiate required legal and financial documents for research activities
Data entry, verification and handling, record keeping, in accordance with scientific protocol and applicable Standard Operating Procedures
Contribute to development of product profiles and potential novel targets
EDUCATION AND
Experience:
Educational background: BS (Animal Science or related area) and at least 5 years animal research experience, or PhD (or equivalent) in Animal Science or related area; DVM (or equivalent) a plus
Training or experience in biological sciences and/or veterinary medicine and/or livestock industry or research and/or production physiology
At least 5 years of experience in conducting animal studies including all aspects of design, execution, interpretation and reporting
Experience in the establishment of new animal models
Developing an understanding of the inter-relationship between genetics, growth physiology, and livestock performance will be a key component of this role
Demonstrated interest in and/or publications relating to livestock production and/or reproduction
Self-starter, able to prioritize work and work efficiently with minimal supervision
Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
Computer skills required: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Work environment: The person filling this position will work with farm technical staff and animal scientists. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to, zoonotic organisms
Some travel to off-site locations may be required
