Job Summary
The Apple Online Services organization is seeking an experienced individual to be part of a team that provides provide 24 x 7 operational support of the Apple Online Services mission critical large scale infrastructure and application stack The successful candidate will have a proven track record of UNIX, LINUX and Mac OS X server systems management and handling large scale online environments, be able to quickly assess, analyze, and resolve site incidents in a fast paced environment, excellent verbal and written communication skills to be able to interact effectively with engineering and other operations teams. Experience with web servers, database administration, application servers and systems monitoring is a must. Daily responsibilities include the monitoring of production systems; the updating of application servers and databases; identifying, troubleshooting and resolving issues for end users and project stakeholders; deploying and documenting environments and applications; designing and executing reports on system and software usage metrics; writing automation to enable support personnel to provide assistant on issue resolution; help identify customer business issues and the technologies to resolve them. The position will require rotating day, night and weekend shifts.
Key Qualifications
Experience managing Linux systems in a 24/7 production environment. Strong troubleshooting ability; can take steps on their own to isolate issues and determine root cause through investigative analysis in environments where the candidate has little knowledge/experience/documentation. Ability to program in Python, Perl, Ruby or PHP. Working knowledge of multi-tier applications and their dependencies including load balancing, TCP/IP networking, web services, LDAP and DNS. Proficiency with web server administration including Apache and Nginx. Knowledge of database support and administration including MySQL, Postgres, & HBase. Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, splunk and munin. Develop and maintain automation for system administration, provisioning, support and application management related tasks that add value, enable support teams and users, reduce costs and increase business agility. Experience with Puppet. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing justifications, training users in complex topics, writing status reports, documenting procedures, and interacting positively with other staff and management. Must be capable of independent problem-solving and self-direction. Deftness to handle multiple simultaneous competing priorities and deliver solutions in a timely manner. Capability to easily change priorities as the business dictates. Cisco and Juniper network administration experience a plus. Ability to travel internationally a plus.
Description
Monitor production, staging, test and development environments for a myriad of applications in an agile and fast paced organization. Provide incident resolution for all technical production issues. Create and maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation reflecting configuration. Provide input to improve the stability, security, efficiency and scalability of systems. Determine future needs for capacity and investigate new products and/or features. Administer and ensure the proper execution of the backup systems. Provide 24x7 on-call support to handle urgent escalations. The position will require rotating day, night and weekend shifts. Can be part time >25 hours a week if attending school.
Education
Normally requires a BS in Computer Science or equivalent Program
Additional Requirements
Ability to travel internationally a plus.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
